Donald Trump has declared it is "time for Ukraine to get a new President” in a blistering series of comments amid an intensifying row with Volodymyr Zelensky.
The US leader was speaking just hours after he inked a major diesel deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
President Trump is understood to have made the agreement after President Zelensky resisted his request to cease attacks on Russia's energy infrastructure.
“Zelensky could have settled this war many times, many, many times. And he chooses not to. Very difficult. It's a war that should have never been started,” Mr Trump began, speaking to voters outside White House.
“We said, you can do whatever you want to Russia. Don't hit the refineries, because that's a world problem that's caused. And he wants to make problems for the world.
“He wants to make problems for our farmers, our ranchers, with diesel fuel, because Russia supplies a large portion of the diesel fuel throughout the world.
“We told them, do whatever you want, but don't hit the diesel fuel because there's a big problem, a big shortage. And what does he do? He goes and hits the diesel fuel.
“So he'd better damn well stop,” the US leader said.

“And you know what I suggest? I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal. Because he could have made many deals, and for some reason, he never does.”
Russian oil refineries have been devastated by Ukraine's successful drone and missile campaign against the invading power.
This led the Kremlin to impose an export ban on diesel as it tried to respond to the strikes.
Moscow's move piled further pressure on the global energy market, still reeling from the Iran war and closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

On Friday, President Trump announced that Russia had agreed to supply “immediately more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel fuel” amid record-high prices for the product.
He also said Washington would lift sanctions on Russian diesel to help make another 1.5 million tonnes available by year-end.
On the day President Trump made the announcement, a gallon of diesel cost £4.74, up from £2.78 12 months earlier.
As the US midterm elections approach, the US leader is under increasing pressure to bring domestic diesel prices under control.
