Counter Terrorism Police have arrested a third man in connection to an incident at Kensington Gardens earlier this month.

A 31-year-old man was arrested this morning at an address in the Potters Bar area on suspicion of preparing an act of terrorism.

The man was taken to a London police station, where he remains in police custody as officers carry out a search at the address.

The arrest is part of an ongoing Counter Terrorism Policing investigation following the discovery of jars of a non-hazardous substance in Kensington Gardens on Friday April 17.

Two other men were previously arrested and have been released while enquiries continue.

One 39-year-old man was arrested on April 21 at an address in Ealing under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Five days later, on April 26, officers arrested a 37-year-old man in Devon on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts.

The 37-year-old man was released on bail to a date in July, while the 39-year-old man was released without charge.

A CTP spokesman said: "Counter Terrorism officers continue to work closely with Met Police colleagues in response to various incidents, which includes specialist officers providing protective security advice and support to a large number of organisations, community venues and businesses.

"Since the attack on the Hatzola ambulances in Golders Green on March 23, there have been 28 arrests linked to the various incidents and CTP investigations that have followed - including a man arrested earlier today in relation to a terrorist incident in Golders Green.

"Of those 28 who have been arrested, eight people have been charged with arson-related offences, and one person has been convicted of arson."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Police stressed the fresh arrest is not connected to the investigation into a terror attack earlier today, during which two men were stabbed in Golders Green.

At the time of the Kensington Gardens incident on April 17, the park was shut by police as officers advised the public to stay away while they investigated "a number of discarded items".

The ongoing investigation centres around items discovered near the Israeli embassy, and their potential connection to a video that allegedly announced plans for a terror attack at the site.

Cordons were put in place, with one eyewitness telling MyLondon there was a forensics team by the bandstand near the middle of the park.

Further eyewitnesses said three officers were working in protective gear next to the Round Pond.

A fire investigation unit from the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service’s hazardous area response team were also present at the scene.

The historic residence, formerly the primary home of the Prince and Princess of Wales, sits on the park's western boundary, positioning it roughly 350 metres from the bandstand where specialist police vehicles were gathered.
