Keir Starmer's 'disastrous leadership' on Iran war torn apart by ex-Royal Marine: 'Not putting Britain's interests first!'

Former Royal Marine James Glancy has launched a scathing attack on Sir Keir Starmer's management of the escalating Iran conflict, describing it as both a political catastrophe and a damning indictment of Britain's military readiness.

Speaking to GB News, Mr Glancy declared: "Militarily, our armed forces have so little as a result of decades of cuts."

He accused the Prime Minister of failing to prioritise national interests, stating: "Keir Starmer is not somebody that I would say ever puts Britain's national interest first."

The veteran criticised what he characterised as a complete mishandling of the crisis by Government ministers.

"From the political point of view, Starmer and the Government have completely messed this up," Mr Glancy said, pointing to failures in both preparation and response.

Mr Glancy highlighted the critical shortage of Type 45 destroyers, the vessels essential for the current situation.

"Only two out of the six that we have are available," he told GB News.

"We should have had 12 ships, which would have meant much more availability to have multiple Type 45s around the world or ready to react," Mr Glancy explained.

He described the current predicament as the inevitable consequence of prolonged underinvestment in defence.

"So this is a culmination of decades of defence cuts, but a politically disastrous leadership by Keir Starmer," he added.

Mr Glancy concluded the Prime Minister's approach had brought shame upon the nation.

"Politically, Starmer has humiliated Britain," the former Royal Marine stated.

The Prime Minister's decision to deny American forces access to British bases has inflicted significant damage on the transatlantic alliance.

"He's obviously undermined what's left of the so-called special relationship," Mr Glancy stated.

The refusal extended to facilities where the United States has made substantial investments, including Diego Garcia and RAF Fairford.

"He didn't allow America to attack from those bases," the former Royal Marine explained. "So politically, this has been a Government disaster."

Mr Glancy acknowledged that Britain was right to avoid direct involvement in regime change operations, citing the failures in Afghanistan, Libya and Iraq.

"Foreign conflicts like in the Middle East have not turned out well for Britain or America," he observed.

However, he argued the Government's approach was fundamentally flawed in its execution.

"We should be in a position where we are striking back at those that are launching drones or ballistic missiles at us," he concluded.
