Woman, 27, charged after police officer injured in Nottingham shooting

A 27-year-old woman has been charged in connection to the shooting of a police officer in Nottingham city centre.

Aisha Zaman, of Collison Street, Hyson Green, was been charged with possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of that firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, Nottinghamshire Police said.

She has been remanded into custody and will appear before Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Friday, the force confirmed.

In the early hours of Sunday, at around 4.50am along Angel Row, a police officer approached two people, described as acting suspiciously, and then was shot in the foot.

The officer was hospitalised and is continuing to receive medical treatement, Nottingham Police added.

So far in the ongoing investigation, two men, aged 24 and 30, and two women, aged 25 and 21, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A man, 35, and a woman, 33, have also been detained on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender.

The pair remain in police custody.

"We hope this offers the public some reassurance.

"Our investigation team are still following a number of lines of inquiry to ensure those responsible are arrested, charged, and put before the courts."

Yesterday, Nottingham Police was given extra time to question a woman who was arrested in connection with the case.

They confirmed Nottingham Magistrates’ Court granted detectives a warrant of further detention, allowing them to continue questioning the 27-year-old suspect.

A weapon appearing to be a sawed-off double-barrelled shotgun was pictured at the scene, with Nottingham East MP Nadia Whittome paying tribute.

She said: "My thoughts are with the injured police officer and his family following this truly shocking incident.

"We all wish him a full and speedy recovery."

Meanwhile, the Police Federation of England and Wales sent best wishes to the officer and said it was a "stark reminder of the dangers police officers face every day".

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 101, quoting incident 106 of October 18.
