Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has reacted to the alleged murder of Ann Widdecombe following her death aged 78.
Mrs Badenoch said: "I'm stunned to be honest, I didn't really have the words for what we've discovered has happened.
"Ann Widdecombe was 78 years old. She was a fun and very feisty person, but she was an elderly person. I don't understand how someone could do something like this.
"It was a nasty, horrific attack, and I'm just heartbroken thinking about her family. It's one thing when an elderly person dies, but to know that this is that they were killed, I can't imagine what they must be going through.
"And I understand that the person is still at large. I hope that the perpetrator is caught as quickly as possible, so that he is not a danger to anyone else."
